Sadly, today I got a nice flier from Honda saying that a lot of really cool electronic texting and music streaming features are now standard on Hondas that are better than the simple Bluetooth in my Nissan Versa. I still don't have my proper license plates yet.  Will keep the Honda features in mind for future cars.  My old car was a very standard Honda Civic coupe with no Bluetooth at all.

Today I received an item I had ordered, but it was too small.  Quick 2 mile trip to UPS store to ship the item as a return.  81 miles remaining on the second tank of gasoline.  29.4 average mpg.  Average speed this trip was 30 mph or less.  Ending odometer 467 miles.

Ending odometer on Tuesday 7/30/2013 was 465.  90 miles remaining on 2nd tank of gasoline.  29.4 miles per gallon on average. Drove 40 miles per hour on average Tuesday. 

Next week I have to drive to the office every day.  If I am able to leave work during the day to check on my dog, I will do about 30 miles each day. Not looking foward to the extra fuel cost next week and miles on the car.

There is a lot of road construction, too.

Drove the 2014 Nissan Versa SV to the pharmacy on this rainy summer morning.  Top speed was 40 miles per hour.  I drove almost 4 miles. Ending odometer was at 385.   Average miles per gallon is still 29.4.  The car estimates that I can drive 173 more miles on the second tank of gas.  Today we received the Texas certificate of title to the car in the mail, 22 days after we bought the car.

Thursday, July 25, 2013 - Around 25 miles driven today

On Thursday, July 25, 2013, I drove a few short trips, from mile 356 on the odometer up to 381 miles. My average speed was around 40 miles per hour.  Average miles per gallon is still 29.4.  At the end of the day, there were 180 miles estimated remaining on the second tank of gas.

On 7/17/2013, I was almost out of gas. The indicator would not display how many more miles I could drive on the fuel that was remaining.  I drove a couple of miles to pick up dinner.  My average speed was 30 miles per hour, and the average miles per gallon was 29.8.  Starting odometer was 259 miles.

On 7/18/2013, I bought the second tank of gasoline for the 2014 Nissan Versa SV.  I drove around 9 miles at an average speed of 40 mph.  The average miles per gallon remained at 29.8.  The car registered 294 miles remaining on the second tank of gas.  I didn't drive 294 miles on the first tank, but I made it around 261 miles on tank 1.

On 7/19/2013, I drove about 17 miles total.  My average speed was 40 mph.  The average miles per gallon remained at 29.8.  The car registered 277 miles remaining on the 2nd tank.

On 7/20/2013, I drove almost 14 miles.  My average speed was 40 mph.  The mpg went down to 29.6.  I made a lot of stops that day in four short trips.  The car registered 258 miles remaining on the 2nd tank.

On 7/21/2013, I drove about 15 miles.  My average speed was 40 mph.  The mpg remained at 29.6.  I made 3 stops.  The car registered 263 miles remaining on the second tank.  I remember I drove around 261 miles on the first tank, so I will be watching to see if I can go further on the second tank.

On 7/22/2013, I drove approximately 6 miles.  My average speed was 30 miles per hour.  The mpg remained at 29.6.  One short trip to the vet, and then picking up dinner that night.  The car registered 247 miles remaining on the second tank.  Ending odometer was 321 miles.

On 7/23/2013, I drove around 29 miles.  Average speed about 45 miles per hour.  I drove from home to breakfast, then to work.  Next, I drove home for lunch, back to work, to the grocery store, and back home again.  Average miles per gallon went down to 29.4.  The car registered 211 miles remaining on the 2nd tank.

Today, on 7/24/2013, I drove around 6 miles.  My average speed was 35 miles per hour. It was raining.  I went to the pharmacy, and waited a while in the drive through with the car running.  The average miles per gallon remained at 29.4. There are 204 miles remaining on the second tank. The ending odometer was 356 miles.

Tuesday, July 16, 2013 Errands - low fuel indicator comes on!

I ran some errands Tuesday morning, and put ten more miles on the car.  At around 40 miles remaining on the first tank of gasoline, the low fuel indicator started blinking.  Around 20 miles remaining on the first tank, the car stopped estimating how many more miles that I can drive.  I am now down to 2 bars on the fuel indicator.  My top speed was around 40 miles per hour.

Sunday errands 7-14-2013

We ran many errands on Sunday July 14, 2013.  Opening miles on odometer were 232, and we ended the day with 249 miles. Total miles driven: 17.

Driving record for Friday, July 12, 2013 to the mall and to pick up some dinner

The morning of July 12, I drove to the mall to have my iPhone repaired.  That night, I drove to pick up some Mexican food for our dinner.  I started the day with 213 miles on the odometer, and ended that night with 232.  Total amount driven on July 12, 2013 was 19 miles.

My top speed that morning to the mall and back was around 65 miles per hour.  In the evening, I only drove around 40 miles per hour.  In the morning, the car showed 30.3 average miles per gallon.  By the evening, it was back down to 30.1 average miles per gallon.

In the morning, the car estimated that there would be up to 118 miles remaining on the first tank of gasoline.  By the evening, the car estimated only 84 miles remaining on the first tank of gasoline.  This is a difference of 34 miles, when I only drove 19 total miles that day.

During the segments of my trips, I noticed that at 220 miles on the odometer, the car estimated that there were 104 miles remaining on the first tank.  This was not too far off, as I had driven 7 miles at that point.  When I arrived home that morning, the odometer was at 226, and estimated 98 miles remaining on the first tank.  I drove 6 more miles that evening, and the car first estimated 98 miles remaining, with 84 miles estimated remaining at the end.

Wednesday July 10, 2013 - Biggest Driving Day Yet in 2014 Nissan Versa SV

On Wednesday, July 10, 2013, I drove in my 2014 Nissan Versa SV to pick up my nephew.  We stopped to visit my parents and to show them the new car.  

Then, we drove to the pharmacy.  After stopping at home, we drove to lunch and back home.  That evening, I drove my nephew back to his mother's work.  On the way home, I stopped at the grocery store.  Once I arrived home for the evening, I had 213 total miles on the odometer and less than half of a tank of gas remaining.

I checked the miles remaining on the first tank of gas along the way as we stopped in between trips.  Interestingly, Tuesday afternoon around 5:22 pm, the display read that at 108 miles on the odometer, there were 189 miles remaining on the tank.  Wednesday morning, still 108 miles on the odometer, but 179 miles remaining on the first tank of gasoline.  Overnight sitting in the garage, the estimate went down by 10 miles?

After driving about three legs of the way over 30 miles each trip, the miles per gallon dramatically improved.  On my short errands around the city streets at 40 miles per hour, I was averages less than 25 miles per gallon of fuel.  Now that I drove 65 miles per hour for 30 miles (three trips), the miles per gallon improved to 30.1.  So far, this is the all time high.  I do not typically drive that much every day, so I do not believe that the car will stay up in the 30's on mpg.

Driving to the office, home for lunch, back to office, and then home again

I drove my silver 2014 Nissa Versa SV from home Tuesday morning to a fast food place for breakfast, then to the office.  At lunch, I drove home and then back to the office. After work, I drove back home. Top speed was 40 miles per hour.  I ate my fast food breakfast in the car with no issues.  

I have noticed that in the morning, if my car is facing west and the bright sun is shining behind me from the east, the reflection on the chrome around the control dials on the dashboard is blindingly bright and distracting.  I noticed this while driving, so I was unable to capture the effect in a photo.  Blinding and distracting the driver with reflected sunbeams on the controls could be a potential safety hazard.

Starting out on the morning of 7/9/2013, the odometer was at 80 miles.

Here is a picture of the car in the parking lot at my office.  I made sure to park far away from any other cars. I have had problems with door dings in the past in this parking lot with my previous car.  Since we have no covered parking, hail damage is another potential problem.
